The 2024 Met Gala Is Underway. Here’s Everything You Need to Know about the Biggest Night in Fashion

By Alexus Mosley

April’s showers brings May’s biggest night in fashion. Widely regarded as the ball of all balls, The Met Gala has earned its reputation as the one of the most prestigious and glamorous social gatherings globally. With attendees being only the most elite and culturally significant names in fashion, television, film, sports, business, politics, music, and social media, of course this year’s event will be no different. Below, The Styled Chat has gathered the latest details on what you can expect from this year’s “Fashion Superbowl.”

Sticking to its tradition of being held on the first Monday in May, the gala will take place on May 6 on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. Celebrating the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the exhibit will feature roughly items pulled from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. We can expect designs by Dior, Givenchy, Schiaparelli, and more. Bridging over 400 years of fashion history, some items are even too delicate to be worn and will be displayed using sensory stimulation such as via video animation, light projection, and CGI (Charles Frederick Worth 1877’s ball gown being one of them). The Costume Institute’s Curators Andrew Bolton and Wendy Yu note that the exhibit will pay tribute to the natural world and is shaped around the three zones: Land, Sea, and Sky. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” Bolton said.

Inspired by the 1962 short story by J.G. Ballard, this year’s Met Gala dress code is “The Garden of Time.” So we expect to see lots of florals for Spring on the red carpet. The hosts of the evening are no other than alluring A-listers Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
